As we look to the highlights, the hitters must be heating up with the weather, as there aren't nearly as many shutouts being thrown. And speaking of heating up, one club's manager lets his temper loose on a group of reporters. Here's what happened:
4/29 - Huffman's Vern Ruhle worked his way through trouble as he shutout Little Rock. Ruhle struck out 5 while giving up 6 hits and walking 5. Ruhle is now 2-4 with a 4.70 ERA.
5/1 - Player of the Month awards are out. The two Batters of the Month are Glenn Davis and Denis Menke. Davis hit .339 with 7 homers 27 RBI and 23 runs in 28 games. "I've been around Tales from the GOATpen long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," Davis said. "It's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." Menke hit .336 with 4 home runs, 22 RBI, and 21 runs.
Pitchers of the Month were Don Wilson and Mike Cuellar. Wilson went 4-1 in six starts for Nacogdoches with a 2.56 ERA while striking out 50 in 45.2 innings. Cuellar was 4-2 in his 6 starts with a 2.66 ERA while also striking out 50 in his 47.1 innings of work.
5/5 - The Albuquerque manager had something he needed to say to the media today, and it's probably best if I just let you read it yourselves.
5/5 - The Players of the Week were named, and Jerry Mumphrey and Denis Menke took home the honors. Mumphrey hit .393 for the week with 2 HR and 6 RBI. He's up to .280 on the season. Menke hit .419 with 7 runs scored, pushing his average up to .348 at this point in the year.
5/12 - After a relatively quiet week, the league again named its Players of the Week. This week the awards go to Jose Cruz and Bob Watson. Cruz hit .474 for the week and is now up to .342 on the year. Watson hit .417 and, though he has just 1 home run on the season, he's now hitting a healthy .327.
In our power rankings we see that Nacogdoches continues to pace the league while Little Rock drops to the bottom of the rankings.
Here are the stat leaders through 38 games:
From the batters box, we see that Glenn Davis continues to have a strong season with Mark Bailey hanging around as an early surprise slugger.
On the mound, J.R. Richard is getting no run support as evidenced by his losing record despite his high position on the leaderboards. In fact, the SeanBerry Shortcakes have scored just 12 runs in Richard's 8 starts, including a stretch of 4 starts in which they scored a total of 1 run.
I've also added a few other miscellaneous screenshots just for fun.
