With the first pick of the 10th Round of the 2014 MLB Draft (286th overall) the Astros select RHP Jay Gause out of Faulkner University.
Gause is a 6'4" 250lb junior, and was previously a 25th round pick by Cleveland back in 2010 out of high school, when he already featured a low-90s fastball and asked for $750K to sign. He transferred to Faulkner from Walters State Community College, and in 2014 with Faulkner went 4-3 with a 2.79 ERA in 14 games (7 starts), stacking up 83:24 K:BB and a .139 BAA in 58 IP.
In the opening round of this year's NAIA Tournament, Gause was at his best, firing off 16 K in a 1-hit, complete game shutout.
