Asher Wojciechowski, who injured his right lat in a bullpen session at home on February 1, will likely begin the season on the DL after six weeks of continued setbacks.
Luhnow:
Anybody who’s coming to major league camp wants to make a positive
impression on the staff, and that was probably his goal. It’s going to
be harder to do since he’s not likely to pitch in front of the staff. He’s going to get every chance to establish himself as the guy who
can get called up if there’s a need in the rotation at the big league
level. That’s really what his aspiration I’m sure is to make the big
leagues this year. He still has a pretty good chance to do that.
Wojciechowski had an outside chance to make the rotation, but I always thought he'd be one of the "First Men Up" when one of the starting five faltered. He still could be, of course, but it doesn't seem like this is going to be a quick fix. Bummer for Wojciechowski, bummer for the Astros.
