Pitcher David Martinez has been promoted from Corpus Christi to Oklahoma City, according to Brian McTaggart. Alex Sogard has been sent to Corpus from OKC.
Martinez, 25, has been in the system his entire career, beginning in the Venezuelan Summer League in 2005. He leads the minors with his 14 wins, and is 7th in ERA at 2.02. In 26 games (129.1IP), he has allowed just 109H/29ER, 86K:20BB and was just voted by Texas League managers as having the Best Control in the League.
On June 2, Martinez allowed 6H/5ER in 2.1IP at Arkansas. Since then (12 games - 73.2IP), he has allowed 61H/13ER, 52K:9BB, and a .575 OPS-against. You might be asking, "Why not Mike Foltynewicz?" And I would not have a good answer for that. Given Martinez's age (25), I would assume that the Astros are ready to see what he can do.
