With the 1st pick of the 11th Round (317th overall), the Astros select 6'5" 240lb Devonte German, a RHP from Bishop Manogue High School in Nevada.
German played both ways for Bishop Manogue, but as a pitcher, tossed 30IP, allowing 16H/6ER, 10BB:44K, going 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA.
Jonathan Mayo says this:
"German is an elite athlete who starred in three sports in high school. As a baseball player, he is still raw and didn't play much on the travel or showcase circuits. A true two-way player, German attracted scouts' attention with his athleticism and promise as an outfielder and on the mound. He throws in the low-90s now and his 6-foot-5, 235-pound frame make it easy for scouts to project him to add even more velocity as he develops. German's combination of speed and strength makes him a potential impact outfielder if a team prefers to develop him as an everyday player. He is committed to Nevada."
