Okay, so it's really the AL Player of the week, but whatever you call it, Jason Castro's the man. It's a big deal for two reasons - 1) He's the first Astros player to receive the honor in the American League, and 2) No Astro has been named Player of the Week in any league since Hunter Pence in September of 2010.
Why is Castro the player of the week? Well, in a week where the Astros were being swept by the A's, Castro still managed to go 11-19 with a .579 BA last week. It was a run of great hitting that included five runs, five RBI, three home runs and a double. Whew. That's a busy week at the plate.
In case you're wondering what you get for being named the player of the week - it's a watch, courtesy of Game Time.
