Brian McTaggart is reporting that Rudy Owens - LHP acquired in the Wandy Rodriguez trade - has a stress fracture of his left foot and will require surgery. Thus, he'll be out for up to five months which is (checks calendar) yep, pretty much the rest of the year.
Owens will be the third pitcher to miss significant time this season, after John Ely and Alex White went down with injuries requiring Tommy John surgery. Owens was 0-3, but with a 3.71 ERA/1.71 WHIP, and 13K:9BB in 17IP (3rd-highest on the team in IP) for Oklahoma City.
Also, Justin Maxwell has been re-evaluated and will be out for 4-6 weeks, but will not need surgery.
