Okay, so while Carlos Corporan limped along to a .188 batting average last season getting sporadic playing time behind Humberto Quintero, his newborn son's heart wasn't developing properly, needing open-heart surgery as a premature baby.
When he got another chance in September, things got worse, with Carlos Jr. needing another open-heart surgery:
"I was in the big leagues, you know. You are thinking about your baby in the hospital and possibly dying you have to go to the field to perform, it's hard. I did the best I could."
There's a happy ending, though, so, yay.
