Deputy Jason brought up an interesting question on Twitter today: How are the minor league teams doing this year, when compared to 2009?
Well, let's take a look. One note, though. Due to the number of postponements, reschedules, etc., I can say with 100% accuracy that these records are 85% correct. It's a snapshot of records from year to year.
Round Rock
2009 record, through August 10: 51-65
2010 record, through August 10: 49-69
Round Rock is three games back of where they were at this point last year.
Corpus Christi
2009 record, through August 10: 50-64
2010 record, through August 10: 54-60
Not bad for a team that lost 42 games in a row (approx) this year. The Hooks are four games up on the 2009 Hooks.
Lancaster
2009 record, through August 10: 45-71
2010 record, through August 10: 44-71
Lancaster is half a game back of 2009.
Lexington
2009 record, through August 10: 56-56
2010 record, through August 10: 58-57
1 1/2 games up on last year
Tri-City
2009 record, through August 10: 14-34
2010 record, through August 10: 24-27
This is, obviously, the most dramatic improvement of all the farm teams.
Greeneville
2009 record, through August 10: 19-27
2010 record, through August 10: 22-26
Two games up.
A better way of looking at it is from an organizational standpoint, top-to-bottom ("bottom" meaning Greeneville - I didn't look at the GCL or DSL Astros):
2009 composite minor-league record: 235-317 (.360)
2010 composite minor-league record: 251-310 (.447)
I haven't looked at all other organizations, but the Astros have a pretty substantial increase in Win% from 2009 to 2010.
