Moehler, to Maysonet before the game:
"You starting tonight? Well, make sure you don’t screw it up.”
Maysonet:
“I thought he was just trying to give me confidence. When (Moehler) did that it helped me relax. I felt well today. I’m thankful I had the opportunity to play today and I felt good. First of all, I didn’t think the ball was going to go out on the home run. I hit it well. But because it’s a big park I didn’t think it was going out. When I saw it go, it was very emotional for me because we needed runs and that also was my first home run.”
Pirates' Brandon Moss, on Moehler:
“I know it’s easy to look at this game and say, ‘Hey, how can a guy with an ERA over eight shut you down like that?’ But he pitched a hell of a game. He was throwing four pitches for strikes, and everything was down and on the corners. I had a nine-pitch at-bat, and I couldn’t handle any of the nine pitches.”
Hey buddy, his ERA is now over six, thank you very much.
Moehler:
“We got (Thursday) off just to clear our minds, and everybody got a break. We came out today and we swung the bat and we played good defense. That’s more rewarding than anything."
We didn't come out here to play tiddlywinks, son.
