Brandon Backe is coming along on his Drive To Make The Rotation Awkward:
Backe will throw a simulated game today and possibly start the rehab assignments next week. When asked at what stage Backe felt in his recovery, he said a two-inning, 40-pitch outing. (Only Backe would find 40 pitches over two innings completely normal).
“My arm’s in better shape than it would be arriving to spring training. I feel like I could go and throw two innings in the first outing in spring training, but they’re not going to let me.”
Coop said after one or two more simulated games or bullpen sessions, Backe could find himself in the minors, making rehab starts.
